'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Alex Russell Signs For Exeter City

Alex Russell passed a medical today and became Exeter City' latest signing.

The play-maker has left Cheltenham Town initially on loan but a deal for next season will be sorted once personal terms can be agreed.

He told the Express & Echo: 'This is a club that is going places and I cannot wait to come on board.'

Cheltenham boss Martin Allen told their official website how finances are the most important thing at Cheltenham and players such as Russell would have to be sacrificed.

He said: 'It's not my choice to see him go but financially it's the best thing for the football club, although it's not the best decision for the team.

Russell missed Town's defeat on Tuesday night and it is not yet known whether he will play for Exeter against Darlington on Saturday but we can probably expect to see him paraded to the fans at some point.

This transfer has caused a stir amongst Cheltenham fans frustrated at the decision to loan out a first team regular.

Agreed, a very pleasing signing and I'm sure he will play a valuable role in the run-in.

No he was linked with a return but never did. He played for Torquay for a while and think he might work as Exeter as a youth team coach, but I'm not sure
