Exeter City are now joint with the automatic promotion slots in League Two after an incredibly hard-fought win over Port Vale at St James Park.
Luke Prosser put through his own net just before the half hour but despite their numerical disadvantage City pressured, harried and harassed Vale throughout the match and were deserved winners.
With rivals Wycombe and Chesterfield both drawing Exeter gave their hopes a real shot in the arm thanks to a dogged display made even more difficult after Dan Seaborne's red-card after 21 minutes.
Adam Stansfield and home debutant Stuart Fleetwood led from the front with tremendous performances while Marcus Stewart gave arguably his best display in an Exeter shirt.
City now face another home match on Saturday when Dagenham come to town, another three points would fuel the City fans dreams of back-to-back promotions.
