Exeter City`s first choice goalkeeper, Paul Jones has revealed he is likely to return to full fitness in December.
The young shot stopper has been out of action since the end of August with a knee injury. A simple cartilage operation was the remedy and Jones was only expected to be out for around a month. However, the former Leyton Orient keeper attempted to force himself back into the fold too soon, and this caused cruciate ligament damage. Jones feared this would keep him out for the season, but his fears were unfounded when his surgeon revealed he did not have to undergo a further operation.
The young shot stopper has revealed to the Exeter Express and Echo his frustration of recovering from the first serious injury of his career. "The most frustrating thing with an injury is that you can`t train" said Jones. But he said he had begun light training, and that a December return was possible. "I would like to think I will be back for the start of December". However, be prepared for a further wait as Jones said "I don`t know how I am going to react to doing a full training session. He said that whilst his knee "feels really good at the moment", he fears "it is hard to tell exactly when I will return".
Whilst Tottenham Hotspur loanee Oscar Jansson and the experienced Andy Marriott have proved able deputies, Jones, who played over 60 consecutive games before his injury, has been solely missed. Jones was last season voted player of the season by the supporters as his crucial interventions helped the Grecians claim automatic promotion from League 2. The pessimist in me sees Jones playing an important role in securing City`s place in League 1.
