Exeter City`s unfortunate geographical position means the team and its fans often have to travel great distances to matches.
The situation is much better this season than last, with League 1 being a relatively 'southern` league.
However, City team are fortunate to have such a large band of travelling supporters. Nearly 3,000 Grecians made the long trip to Leeds, and 1,150 were present at Charlton. At South West rivals Bristol Rovers, 1,235 City fans made the trip to the Memorial Stadium. Most recently on Boxing Day, over 1,800 City supporters left their left over turkey and made the trip to Southampton.
Furthermore, the travelling support in the less glamorous games has been admirable. Nearly 800 made the trip up the M5 to Walsall, and 631 were present at MK Dons for that disappointing defeat in the second round of the FA Cup. 608 were at Leyton Orient, and even for the long jaunts up North the support rarely drops below 300.
Last season, the travelling Grecians were treated to a rare successful campaign away from St. James Park. This season, as was probably expected, the Grecians have struggled to pick up points away from St. James Park. That has not detracted the hardy supporters who have suffered in years gone by, but can now enjoy visiting some superb grounds and clubs. None more so than the next away trip to Norwich City, where no doubt their Carrow Road ground will be close to full capacity.
