Grecians beaten in Youth Cup

Exeter City`s run in the FA Youth Cup came to an abrupt end as they were beaten 5-1 by Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

City got off to a poor start conceding twice in the opening thirteen minutes and Blackpool added a third goal just before half time to effectively end the tie.

The Grecians Premier League opponents added two further goals to go 5-0 in front in the second half but City keeper Paul Gibbons saved a penalty to prevent the gap increasing further.

Seven minutes from time Tom Nichols grabbed a late consolation for Exeter but it`s Blackpool that progress to face Birmingham in the next round.

City`s youngsters will have learned a lot from their run in this years competition, they enjoyed narrow victories over Bournemouth and Cambridge before eventually bowing out to Blackpool.

City: Gibbins, Searle, (Concanen 80) Pike, Moore Taylor, Wannell, Ingham, Knowles, Phillips, (Gosling 70) Cane, (Rowe 75) Reid, Nicholls.
