Tisdale - Positives Overshadowed By Result
Manager Paul Tisdale has said that the result against Peterborough United far outweighs any positives he can take from our performance.
Exeter went down two nil following goals in the final 20 minutes of the match and speaking to the Official Site following the game, Tisdale explained his disappointment.
'I'm disappointed fundamentally because it's the first round of the FA Cup and we've not been the best candidates for a cup run in the last couple of years. It's something that we've put a lot of preparation into this week and we really applied ourselves this week to try and get a result here. I'm more disappointed because we played competently and built our performance nicely. There was a strategy to the way we played and defended and how we increased our offensive play, and I'm pleased with that.'
Tisdale goes on to say that he felt the players more than matched them 'with comfort' on the ball and they trusted each other to do their jobs well so we held positions brilliantly and were strong when we didn't have the ball, but unfortunately we were growing into the game when they opened scoring.
The main problem on the day was that we just didn't take our chances and although nobody can argue that Peterborough didn't have the lions share of efforts at goal, we had the chance to go ahead before they scored but we spurned it despite playing well, or as Tis says, we just didn't 'pack a punch' on the day and that is what has cost us at least making it a closer score line, if not a win, come the final whistle.
