High Praise For Jay

High Praise For Jay

With manager Paul Tisdale saying that everybody in the team has to be aware that he will pick sides based on merit, he also took the chance to praise youngster Matt Jay.

Speaking to the Official Site about his decision to involve the youngster, the gaffer said that he had more than merited his chance owing to his impressive training levels and on pitch performances at other levels.

'Matt has got the best retention rate and he's the brightest of them all at the moment in training and in matches and he completely merited his selection. I picked him because he has been the best player in the squad in attacking areas over the last month. He performed as his skill set suggests and he does it very well.'

17 year old Jay made his first start for the club against Southend and Tisdale said he'd been very impressed with his efforts, saying he was one of the two or three best players on the day and nobody should read anything into the fact he was substituted because he only did that feeling that 90 minutes may have been a bit much for him at this stage.

The gaffer added that for all the gloom following the game, he was a bright light and another young player coming through who shows he has the talent to compete at this level.

Despite being pleased with his efforts on the day, the gaffer does go on to say that he won't play every game obviously, he'll be in and out of the side depending on his form, the opposition and options available but he'll get a good number of games that will give him time to impress and continue his development getting a better grounding in first team action but without piling unnecessary pressure on his shoulders.
