Jay Signs First Professional Deal

Exeter City have announced that they are delighted to inform fans that striker Matt Jay has signed his first professional deal with the club.

The second year Academy scholar has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the club until 2016. He will continue with the U18s for the remainder of this season before officially turning pro in the summer.

He has already had a taste of professional football under manager Paul Tisdale and in making his debut in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy against Wycombe back in September, he became the first player to represent the first team whilst still being a member of our Academy.

With continued good progress in the U18s and U21s he also made his starting league debut in the game against Southend.

Speaking to the Official Site the 17 year old was obviously delighted to know that come next season he'll be a fully fledged first team member, although he knows for development purposes he will also have other duties at U21 level and so on.

'I'm over the moon, I can't say I was expecting it. I've been working hard and I've kept doing what I do, and I was expecting that at the end of the year when players normally get a decision that I might have done enough. So it's come as a surprise and I'm really grateful for it.'

Fantastic early Christmas present for him and his family I'd imagine, and if used the right way come the New Year the gaffer and coaching staff will be hoping he uses it as motivation to work even harder in his development.

Congratulations Matt.
