Tisdale - So Close Against Mansfield
Manager Paul Tisdale has said he feels we were inches away from victory over Mansfield, so how we came out losing the match left him scratching his cap.
A goal from them on the stroke of half time was enough to separate both teams until the end of the game, and whilst the first half could be said to be roughly even, the second period was basically all Exeter in terms of attack but we just couldn't get the round thing in the rectangle.
Speaking to the Official Site following the match Tidale explained that he was delighted with how the game was played and it was a really good game of football that in his eyes certainly deserved more goals on the day than the one that was scored - but telling those extra goals he felt should've gone for us.
'I think we were on the better side of a performance, I don't think we played poorly and I felt, as the players do, really frustrated that we didn't manage toe even get a draw. I suppose that's what happens when a team hands on, we've seen it in the last couple of weeks.'
As for the comment about inches, Tisdale both meant it in the sense of us hitting the woodwork three times as in that's how close we got to scoring, but also in terms of his developing young side, in so far as he feels we are an inch away from really being a success and clicking properly on the pitch, but until we take that step and make the inch up we can't claim that we are there yet and clearly we aren't as too many results aren't going for us when they should be.
Fine lines and margins and all that.
Overall though he remains pleased with the progress we've made so far this campaign, and whilst he knows we will still be a bit 'one step forward, two back one forward again' for a while he believes the foundations are there and we just need to keep plugging away and making the most of vital moments at both ends of the pitch.
