Gow Goes Out, Richards Comes In
Exeter City and Bristol Rovers have tonight announced a season long swop of Alan Gow and Eliot Richards.
The deal will see Gow move to Rovers until the end of the campaign, and we will welcome 22 year old Richards.
The Welshman turned pro back in 2009 and came through the youth tanks of the club with a very good scoring record.
Since making his debut back in the 2011/12 season in their scoreless draw with Macclesfield, Richards has made 66 starts with a further 41 appearances from the bench and has scored 21 goals in that time across all competitions.
He is also a Welsh U19 international.
Some fans may remember him well as he has scored against us on two occasions at St James' Park. The first coming as their winner back in 2012/13 and he also scored their first goal of the campaign back on the opening day of the season when they won by the same scoreline.
Owing to the timing of the deal, the paperwork has gone through on the swop deal and both players are eligible for their debuts in tomorrow's respective fixtures.
Speaking to the Official Site following the announcement of the moves, manager Paul Tisdale said.
'Based on the current economic climate, the club is working hard to create funds to maintain the stability of Exeter City, and the board and I have collaborated to help save money by allowing Alan to join Bristol Rovers for the remainder of the season and that is the primary motivation behind the deal.'
Tisdale goes on to say as part of that deal, and saving funds, we have had the opportunity to bring in Richards to maintain numbers within the team. It is also an ideal opportunity to assess him with a view to a longer deal and fits with the ethos of developing young players.
