'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gill Pleased For The Fans

Midfielder Matt Gill has said he was utterly delighted to play his part in our first home victory since last October and he couldn't have been more pleased for the fans.

Speaking to the Official Site following the victory over Fleetwood Town, it was also his first win since he returned to the club.

'I know there hasn't been a lot to cheer about at St James Park but 99% have stuck with us which has been brilliant. That was for the fans as much as anyone. We're all in this together - it's a family club and that's what I love about it so much.'

With manager Paul Tisdale also having talked about the fans, Gill says the whole team were delighted to have got the win on home soil, and he admits it has been a big relief and you could more than feel that in the dressing room at full time.

However it is only one win, and it isn't enough, neither in terms of our record on home soil but also in terms of seeing us move back up the table into a position that we feel the squad should be in.

There is also the element that we finally got the result that our efforts have deserved, so that in itself should be a big confidence boost for the players in terms of their belief and giving them a lift for future games.

'It was desperately needed, the pressure has been building from outside the dressing room more than in it. The lads know we have done well in spells, it was disappointing to concede against Newport and we perhaps should have left there with three points as well. The lads are really chuffed.'

Gill did say though that being chuffed and relieved is different from being overjoyed, because again they know this can only be a start, but we got what we deserved on Saturday and we have to make sure we start getting what we deserve in every game between now and the end of the season.
