Bennett Confirmed As New Skipper

Bennett Confirmed As New Skipper

Following the demotion and transfer listing of former skipper Danny Coles, Academy graduate Scot Bennett has now been named as the new club captain.

Manager Paul Tisdale has handed the 23 year old the armband on an official basis, and he wore it for the first time this summer in the second half i the game against Reading.

His first experience of skippering the side came last season in the game against Accrington Stanley, and he did so again on the final day against Hartlepool.

Pat Baldwin was named captain for the first half against Reading, and he will continue in his current role as vice skipper.

Speaking to the Official Site after the announcement was made, the gaffer said he felt that Scot, who had worn the armband throughout our youth levels and in reserve fixtures, was more than ready for the responsibility it brought.

'Scot has matured readily over the last couple of years and he's ready for the role. He's done it in the reserves and the U21s - he's ready for it and he didn't hesitate to take the job. It's nice to have a homegrown player coming through and doing it, and especially someone who is indispensable in the side.'
