Corr rescues point for Exeter with late header
St. James Park
Barry Corr rescued a point for Exeter City against bottom side Wycombe Wanderers with a header from close range deep into stoppage time.
Corr`s late intervention at St. James Park ensures the Grecians remain above the relegation zone, but it was more a case of relief than unbridled joy. The nature of the match will have confirmed many supporters` fears that it will be a tough winter for City.
Wycombe came to St. James Park as the bottom side, but it was always going to be difficult for City after Gary Waddock replaced Peter Taylor as manager. The Chairboy`s almost took the lead just after the half hour, but Matt Philips`s shot was well saved by Andy Marriott. However, the visitors did have the chance to take a lead into the interval after captain Matt Taylor brought down Kevin Betsy inside the box. Marriott went the right way for the resulting penalty but Matt Harold`s spot kick was expertly dispatched in the bottom right hand corner.
The home side were more dominant in the second half, and just when it seemed City were going to fall to a third straight defeat, Barry Corr headed in after a long throw. There was still time for Corr to have a penalty appeal turned down as the Grecians pushed for an unlikely winner, but they had to settle for a draw.
