In only one of seven matches in the country this afternoon, the home side took an early lead when prolific striker Grant Holt out jumped Richard Duffy at the back post and headed past Paul Jones. The Grecians have made life tough for themselves this season with the amount of early goals they have conceded, especially on the road. On this occasion, City`s vulnerability from crosses proved their undoing.
However, Paul Tisdale`s side did give a good account of themselves for the most part, despite the gulf in quality clear to see. The canaries moved the ball quicker when they sensed an opportunity, and looked to have secured victory thirteen minutes from time when Chris Martin hit the net from close range after a break.
The Grecians never gave up, and Marcus Stewart gave them hope with eight minutes to go when he reacted quickest after Norwich keeper Fraser Forster spilled a shot. However, that hope was short lived, as just a minute later Holt broke through the City backline to secure a victory which confirms Paul Lambert`s side place in the top two.
A game the Grecians weren`t expected to win, but perhaps they can rouse themselves and get a result in next weeks encounter with Leeds United at St. Jams Park.
